Because living in one European capital wasn’t enough, I found a live-in shoebox in a second one. Amsterdam and Paris, here I am. And here I was (food-wise):
Boulangerie Patisserie Coudrier Geffroy, 77 Avenue Kleber, Paris, 16th
Delicious croissant aux amandes and good croissants a block away from my shoebox
Christian Constant, 37 Rue d’Assas, 6th
Hot choc I thought worth every cent of the 6,50 it cost
Bistro B, Avenue Kleber, 16th
The window seat was cold, and my belly didn’t like the steak tartare but it is right around the corner and the waiters were v. friendly.
Marché Bastille, Boulevard Richard Lenoir, 11th
Big market, with affordable fruit and vegetables (be still, my heart) and hot choucroute garni to please the man. Might become my regular go-to.
Osaka sushi, 37 Rue Montmartre, 2nd
I was glad I had a cheap Groupon for the oddly taste-free, soggy sushi. Cute quartier, though.
Salon d’Agriculture, Porte de Versailles exhibition center, 26 Feb-4 March 2012
The cheese, it is there, as a colleague said. Along with lots of charcuterie, wine, sandwiches and many, many things besides. And that was just pavilion 7.
Comme Chez Maman, 5 Rue des Moines, 17th
Lovely oeufs mayo, tasty St Jacques a la plancha (with yummy caramelised endives), nice chocolat leger with ginger.
Marché Monge, Place Monge, 5th
Small, kinda pricey, but conveniently located to assemble a picknick to take to the nearby Arènes de Lutece.
L’Epsilon, 24 Rue Linné, 5th
If you can make a “croque fromager” that has too much cheese even for me… respect. But I probably won’t come again.
Le Belisaire, 2 Rue Marmontel, 15th
Tasty food, kind people. I felt guilty about ordering the poached egg with foie gras, but, as Bas said “it doesn’t count if you’re in France”.
Maison Privat, 7 Place Cambronne, 15th
Nice croissant, but (again) not excellent. Will try the bread next time, which looked good.
Marche Couvert Des Enfants Rouges, 39 Rue de Bretagne, 3rd
Most of the food sold is organic and ex-pen-sive, but the prepared food stalls are mighty attractive. The man had a kebab sandwich I couldn’t stop asking for “just one more bite” of.
Marche de Grenelle, Boulevard de Grenelle, between Rue Lourmel and Rue du Commerce, 15th
Huge market underneath the subway tracks, with an abundance of fruit and veg options to choose from, as well as much more, mostly food related stuff. Also, an easy bike ride away from my house. Excellent.
Boulangerie Patisserie 55 Suffren, 55 Avenue Suffren, 15th
L.O.V.E.D. the croissant!
Le Poincare, 22 Avenue Raymond Poincare, 16th
The burger was tasty (so said Nathalie), the salad was fine (nothing exciting, but tasty) and then they started cleaning the floor so we skipped dessert.
Le Pas Sage, 1 Passage du Grand Cerf, 2nd
Cool-looking place with a kind girl behind the counter and de-li-ci-ous hot chocolate.
Marche Convention, Rue de la Convention, between rue de l’abbé Groult and rue Alain Chartier, 15th
A nice long stretch of market that feels bustling because it is on the pavement of a shopping street. Nice number of vegetable stalls, but the market wasn’t yet in full swing before nine on a Tuesday morning.
La Tulipe Verte, somewhere close to Trinite and Rue St Lazare, 9th
Nice vin chaud, cool colored carafe and glasses for our water and we got peanuts with our drinks. I approve.
Flam’s, 101 Rue Saint Lazare, 9th
One of a chain of flammekuechen restaurants, with quite nice tartes flambees. They might have accidentally brought us a double portion and if they did, it was a good thing because a single portion would’ve been a bit small, even for lunch.
Laduree, 21 Rue Bonaparte, 6th
My, but these macarons don’t come cheap. Frankly, I didn’t prefer them to the cheaper specimen Blondie bought at Marche Monge a few weekends earlier. Cute bag, though.
Rue Montorgueil, 2nd
First exploration with Nathalie, lots of Easter purchases with the parents. I like, just like many, many other people
Le Tambour, 41 Rue Montmartre, 2nd
Solidly good French food, but the desserts were ridiculously large and not that spectucular in taste. Our waiter was lovely, but could have done with a wash.
Marché Aligre, 12th
Lots of produce and great deals to be had, though not everything is of high quality. I found great asparagus and pretty rhubarb, though.
Café Menilmontant, 12th
Happy hour! With kir for only 1,75 Euro. Why did no one ever tell me about kir before? (Or maybe I just wasn’t listening…) Nice planche mixte too.
Spring, 6 Rue Bailluel, 1st
Lovely dinner with two friends, with lots of fish and seafood and won-der-ful cheese. And sweetbreads. Oh my, the sweetbreads. Also? Beautiful waiter.
Bistro de Longchamp, Rue du Longchamp, 16th
Service was a bit rushed, but I love-love-loved the grilled chorizo and the salad was fine too, if not very exciting. Ooh, and they do pasteis de nata.
